Electrospinning of aligned fiber structures is typically not possible with a stationary setup. The solution is to collect the electrospun fibers on a moving or rotating collection surface. Not only will this allow for the production of larger membranes with consistent thicknesses but it also enables the realization of structures with a high degree of fiber alignment and orientation. This orientation can be obtained by actuating the nozzle in front of a rotating collector and adjusting the translational and rotational speeds with respect to the fiber velocity itself.
The rotating drum collector module EM-RDC is applied to electrospin nonwoven, semi- or fully-aligned meshes with dimensions around 200 x 300 mm. The module offers tight control over the membrane properties and fiber orientation for a variety of different applications.
